RACE AGAINST THE CLOCK: If we are to beat global warming, we need to act expeditiously. Sometimes, acting is helping to define risk for commercial investors. Other times it is doing rather than thinking. The Cleaner Ocean Foundations is more of a do-tank, than a think-tank. But that does not mean we do not assess and seek to contain practical problems. It just means that we aim to cut metal quicker than most.
One
of the problems with modern navies is the refusal to embrace change for
a safe bet, so lacking in ambition. In the words of Vice-Admiral Nick Hine, Second Sea Lord:

In Jules Verne's time there was no such thing as global warming, the raising of the earth's land, ocean and atmospheric temperatures that is causing climate change. Changing weather patterns have created massive deserts of once arable land, melted our ice caps, and in so doing raised sea levels to flood a number of islands, making the inhabitants homeless migrants. The term for such cumulative devastation is ecocide, though the Rome Statute stands to be amended - this may not be necessary if the world moves as one on prevention as a cure. Where industrial giants have exploited the world's natural resources in a way that harms our ecology, encouraged by governments, without thinking in advance of the consequences. The time is right to take on such responsibility, purposefully and with the intention of stabilizing the planet.
"Water will one day be employed as fuel, that hydrogen and oxygen which constitute it, used singly or together, will furnish an inexhaustible source of heat and light, of an intensity of which coal is not capable."
It's a critical situation in the making, with world leaders stymied as to how to transition to zero emission transport, among other developing technology, without upsetting the economic stability of their countries. Where, mostly, economies are based on fossil fuels, this is a sticking point. Though green is on the horizon, in the form of abundant renewable energy.
We simply need to grasp it with both hands, embrace it and make it happen.
